This question has been on my mind after watching a short excerpt of part of a David Goggins seminar recently. I don’t agree with everything he says, particularly around pushing until failure and risking injury, but I can’t argue with the results his physical training has provided him.
In the video, an audience member asks Mr. Goggins what he tells himself when in the middle of a run his body is hurting and telling him to stop. The answer he gives is a simple one, but makes a lot of sense.
All these factors, internal and external, are telling him he can’t do it, he can’t finish the run, but what if he can? What if he proves them wrong?
What if …?
I want to publish novels. To have stories I’ve written published as books for others to read. I want to record and release music for others to listen to. These are things I know and believe are possible. I don’t know all the steps to get there, but I am closer than yesterday.
Is there something in your life you’re excited to achieve but can’t push yourself past resistance which says you can’t do it?
What if you do do it? What if you write that book? What if you blitz that recital? What if you get that job? What if you exhibit that artwork? What if prove that voice, internal or external, wrong?
I believe you can. I hope you believe you can.
It will take hard work. It will take time. It will take perseverance. It is attainable.
Go well, think deeply, and keep on keeping on being awesome.
PEACE.
Wonderfully thought provoking! I believe in you too!
