Today would have been my first day warming up with the team and attempting to play. But that would have been too easy. Thunderstorms showed up postponing play in the morning. This meant our next game was shifted from today in the afternoon, to tomorrow morning. at 8am. I’m not usually a morning person, but I will try my best.
Today’s excitement instead consisted of visiting Waffle House for breakfast, before watching the Blueberries (women’s team based out of Auckland) play for a spot in the top 16. Like the Wildcats yesterday afternoon, the Blueberries scrapped and fought and defended with all they had. Also like they Wildcats, they fell agonisingly short, losing by a single goal. But they were there, close, and learning important lessons. It was great to see them playing so well, and to offer what little consolation we could as they came even closer to the top 16 than Wildcats.
So, tomorrow. Look out for some words about what playing in the heat and after recovering from Covid is like.
Take it easy, as I will be, and talk soon. Peace.
